Batteries do not work

The batteries were connected and fit in the unit perfectly like the originals. They lit the lamp up for a minute. Then I put it out in the sunlight for 2 whole days. When I tried it again, nothing. The light does not come on. What am I supposed to do with it?

A little pricey, but cheaper than buying a new unit. It has the right specs and size. I hope it lasts.
